The value personal is used for the encoding of personal
pronouns.
In Italian the use of personal pronouns, differently than other European
languages, is not obligatory: Tu parli, io ascolto; quando parli,
ti ascolto.
Morphological criteria:
- personal pronouns share with possessive pronouns the person
value;
- they are subdivided into two subgroups, depending on the inflectional
paradigm (feature Inflection): ``forme toniche", here encoded as
strong, and ``forme atone" weak (Serianni 1988).
- they are further subdivided into two subgroups, on the basis of the
case: ``subject" (mapped onto the EAGLES Case value nom) and
``complement" (mapped onto the EAGLES Case value obl).
