Central semantic of value qualitative adjective

Semantic criterion

  1. An adjective has the type qualitative if it has not the type-values demonstrative, possessive, indefinite, cardinal or ordinal. A qualitative adjective predicates a quality/ property of an object, or specifies a judgment.

Given X an adjective, If 'plus ou moins/ très X' succeeds, X is a qualitative adjective.

Syntactico-semantic criterion

  1. Some adjectives have the value +number, but they are nevertheless considered as qualitative adjectives, because they can occupy the position before the noun and the position after the noun (with the same signification).

Given X and adjective, Det a determiner, N a noun, NP a nominal phrase; If the position of X doesn't change its signification, X has the type-value qualitative.
