Like Greek, Irish has a vocative case. It requires:

  1. Insertion of vocative particle;
  2. Lenition of initial consonant; and
  3. In the case of masculine proper names, palatalisation of final consonant.

The dative was recently dropped from the written language, except for some stock phrases, but it survives in speech.
