Person may be marked by an inflection (composite form) or by changing the pronoun in the 3rd singular form, which is always non-composite or split. The Free verbform is distinctive to Irish. It exists for all tenses and moods. It has some of the features of a passive (Irish verbs do not have the attribute Voice) but can be described in general terms only as a null value of the attribute Person. Thus ``scríobhadh leabhar'' might be glossed `a book was written (by somebody)' or, equally, `somebody wrote a book'.
