Traditionally, in Greek, adverb types correspond to a semantic subcategorisation. Thus, the values they usually have are: manner, time, place, quantity, comparative, negative, affirmative, etc.
However, for computational applications, we have considered it more appropriate to distinguish between two different categories, on the basis of scope: sentential adverbs, which have scope over the whole sentence, and nonsentential ones, which usually modify a verb, adverb or adjective.
Certain adverbs can be used both sententially and non-sententially, in which case they are coded with the value both in the Lexicon; disambiguation during corpus processing relies on the linguistic context (most usually, the presence or absence of commas):
``O Ghiannys milaei kala.'' -- nonsent.
``Kala, autos twra ti thelei;'' -- sent.
